Youth is the Truth

The Hiphophuis in Rotterdam is the place for hip-hop culture and creativity. For over 20 years, it has been a unique space, as nowhere else in the world can you find a house that represents hip-hop in all its dimensions. From Rotterdam, Hiphophuis reaches around 50,000 young people each year, offering a diverse range of talent development, lessons, workshops, and exhibitions across different hip-hop art forms. Aruna Vermeulen, director of Hiphophuis, summarizes the mission as follows: “We want to show that hip-hop is a way to develop yourself personally, to develop your community, and through that, society as a whole.”

The aim of the new project “Youth is the Truth” is to enable young people aged 5–18 to develop artistically and personally, while becoming part of a community. The ELJA Foundation is proud to be the main partner of “Youth is the Truth” in the coming years. In addition to expanding activities at the Hiphophuis’s main location in central Rotterdam, we are collaborating on the development of programs with partners in the neighborhood. For example, Gravel Pit, a partnership with Menno van Gorp—Olympic breakdancer and global community leader in Rotterdam South—is part of the project.
