OSCAM Educatie

OSCAM (Open Space Contemporary Art Museum) is a museum for art, fashion, design, craftsmanship, and development in Amsterdam Southeast. OSCAM creates a creative community together with artists and visitors, with extra attention for groups that are underrepresented in the museum world. OSCAM produces high-quality exhibitions in which education and participation often play a major role. Located in the Amsterdam Southeast district, known for its many diverse cultures, OSCAM uses art as a means to spark conversations and create connections. Founded in 2017, OSCAM has quickly developed into an innovative organization with an excellent reputation.

OSCAM believes in a society where everyone has equal access to art and culture. Education and participation are essential in achieving this. Through OSCAM Education, the museum reaches over 700 children per year via after-school programs, school visits, and creative projects. These encounters offer more than cultural education: they strengthen self-esteem, give children a voice, and build bridges between different worlds.

OSCAM collaborates with primary and secondary schools in Amsterdam Southeast and develops creative projects around social themes. Schools are invited several times a year to participate in creative workshops at OSCAM. In addition to its school programs, OSCAM also welcomes young people outside school hours with ZO Tweede Thuis, a program designed to be easily accessible. Since 2021, OSCAM has also organized an alternative “Children’s Day” on December 5, which is now expanding to other locations in the Netherlands. Finally, the museum appoints 10 children as junior museum directors—a group of 10- to 12-year-olds who actively contribute ideas and help make OSCAM even more accessible and relevant for their peers.
