Mijn Schiedam Jongeren
The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam is celebrating 125 years of inspiring art. Known nationally for its modern art collection and iconic Cobra and 1960s/’70s exhibitions, the museum has recently placed a stronger focus on engaging the local community. Through the Mijn Schiedam program, it collaborates with local residents to create exhibitions that tackle urgent social themes, such as poverty. By combining personal stories, pressing social issues, and high-quality art, the museum connects with a wide and diverse audience.
From 2025 to 2026, the museum will put a spotlight on programs by and for young people. A core group of youth will commit to the museum over an extended period, co-developing projects around urgent social themes and a complementary school program. For each theme, additional young participants with relevant knowledge and experience will be invited to contribute. Collaborations with local youth organizations, as well as the active involvement of families and friends, help create a vibrant community. This initiative not only empowers young people but also strengthens social cohesion in Schiedam.
